Recruiting Home Support & Supervised Access Workers

NICCSS is always recruiting new staff as Home Support Workers and Supervised Access Workers. This work is interesting, flexible and multi-faceted. We offer a comprehensive training program as well as on the job mentoring.

This line of work is well suited to:

  • Students looking for front line social service experience
  • Homemakers interested in returning to work in the social service sector
  • Individuals making the transition from pre-employment training programs and,
  • ESL speakers working towards improving their written communication skills within a professional context

Employment with NICCSS is not well suited to those workers needing a regular, full-time, predictable workload as the cases are assigned by contract only.

NICCSS offers a generous benefit package for part-time work, car remuneration, cell phone compensation, in-service training with Certificate, and the opportunity to experience many aspects of working in the field of child protection.

The responsibilities of a Supervised Access/Home Support Worker can include some or all of the below:

  • Provide transport in own vehicle for children under the care of VACFSS.*
  • Facilitate visits between children and their parents in a safe, child-centered, neutral manner.
  • Communicate and keep track of intricate details.
  • Complete tasks in the homes of VACFSS clients which may include light housekeeping, childcare, and/or teaching homemaking.
  • Write observations of visits or work completed in a timely manner.
  • Attend monthly team meetings.
  • Stay current with agency policy and procedures.

* Transportation services for children under the care of VACFSS will resume when Provincial COVID-19 health orders have been lifted.

Skills & Aptitudes

  • An aptitude for working with children and their families.
  • A willingness to undergo a Criminal Record Check and some medical clearance.
  • A capacity to write clearly and/or willingness to learn how to write professionally.
  • Some computer literacy with respect to simple word processing, emails, and file storage.
  • A fully functional cell phone with voice mail.
  • A driver’s license and insurable motor vehicle (optional).
  • An ability to respond in a timely and calm manner during stressful or crisis situations.
  • An understanding of healthy boundaries and the willingness to consult as much as necessary to do the job well.
  • Respect for other cultures; speaking other languages is an asset.
  • Strong time management skills with the capacity for managing an irregular workload.
  • A willingness to work evenings and weekends.
  • A team centered approach along with the capacity to work independently.
  • The desire to take part in service training.
